Welcome to Torbay Garden Club
We are a garden club in Torbay, Auckland. We aim to promote and share interests in gardening, to educate in all aspects of horticulture and to provide fellowship by meeting like-minded people.
We meet on the first Wednesday of the month, except January, February and July, in the Torbay Community Hall 35 Watea Road, Torbay, at 1.00pm. At each of these meetings we also have a club show where members get to exhibit flowers, shrubs and fruit/vegetables from their gardens.
In February, weather permitting, we have a shared picnic lunch in an outdoor venue such as Long Bay Regional Park. In July we celebrate our club birthday with a lunch at a restaurant, and in January we take a break.
Visitors are most welcome and if you decide you would like to join, there is an annual membership fee of $30 for individuals, or $35 for couples.
About TGC
The Torbay Garden Club was established in 1953 as the Torbay Garden Circle under the auspices of the NZ National Party to cater for the many keen gardeners in the area. It was not until 1966 that the Circle seceded from the National Party. In 1979 it was renamed the Torbay Garden Club, as it had outgrown the title of Circle.
It began with 12 members and later grew to close on 150. The current membership (2025) stands around 70 members. Meetings were held in various local halls until the Torbay Community Hall was opened in 1973. This is where the Garden Club has met ever since.
The Torbay Garden Club logo was updated in 2020.
